Bike Like a Girl RAAM Team Finishes About 4:00AM and Breaks The Eight Women Team Record

While you were sleeping VERY early this morning, the Wheelsucker was out riding his bike with friends! He was out starting about 3:30am riding out to meet and eight rider team as they approached the finish line of the incredible Race Across America (RAAM). Most of the eight ladies are from Annapolis, and the Wheelsucker knew several of them before they took on this race, and met others shortly before the race started.

The race starts in Oceanside CA. The timed race ends at the Ram's Head Roadhouse on Generals Highway. Teams ride from there to City Dock via the Shell Station on Bestgate Road, for the ceremonial finish and celebration.

The eight come from various backgrounds; the riders the Wheelsucker knew were “roadies” riding on the Annapolis Bicycle Racing Team (ABRT), others were triathletes.

Kristin Seibert and Michelle Faurot have both ridden Tuesday evening ABRT training rides, so the Wheelsucker knew they were strong cyclists. But riding hard for an hour and a half is rather different from riding across the USA.

It took the team 6 days, 12 hours and 58 minutes to complete the race. They rode at an average speed of 19.1 mph, crushing the old record. Like all teams, they had one rider on the road at a time, and rotated riders. One group of four would be resting for eight hours, while the other group of four rode for approximately 20 minutes out of each 80 minutes.

The Wheelsucker is in awe of these ladies and their accomplishment.
