A significant portion of the group skipped the inner loop by going straight on Bayard, while the rest finished together.
While there were several non ABRTers on the ride, only one of the non ABRTers was wearing Bike Doctor kit, Jeff Chun. And Jeff was kind enough to let the Wheelsucker back into line at the top of a small climb.
The Wheelsucker had raced hard on Sunday and was planning to race again this coming weekend, so was content to minimize hard efforts, sit in when he could, and just make sure he was there at the end. Not wanting to go to the line with "Big D", Pat, Jeff and the two visitors (who were riding strong), the Wheelsucker jumped away at the penultimate dip and hammered up the road, getting dangerously close to the finish line before being caught. Just as he was caught the sprinters launched. Having nothing left the Wheelsucker soft pedaled for the line.
