The forecast was for rain and cold, but the rain looked to be holding off longer than suggested by the forecast. The group rode along the beach front bicycle path into downtown Palma and the harbor area, then out the other side.
At one point the bicycle path went THROUGH the water, at a ford, though there were steps that could be used to cross as an alternative. Nick proved it was shallow enough to ride through, though he soaked his shoes. Riders with Fred bikes (bikes rented from the Fred Rompelberg organization) rode through the water, while those on their own (steel) bikes chose to use the steps.
A perfectly normal road/bike route
all of a sudden is routed under water
or you can carefully step over on these
Despite the plan being easy spin with no climbs there was one very steep short climb – albeit nothing like what was seen in Tirreno-Adriatico – and some fun playing in Palma traffic. The group stopped several times to admire the view.
Rain clouds were coming in so the group turned around and headed back, but were caught in a light rain as they passed through the harbor area on the way back.
While Fred Rompelberg clients are staying in about three different hotels, while renovations are going on at the Tauras hotel, the ABRT group, less John and Denise, are at the Jade hotel, and eating breakfast and dinner at another hotel nearby, the Hotel Playa Golf.
