The Wheelsucker REALLY looks forward to the Tuesday Evening World Championship, oops, he means Tuesday Evening Training Ride. So when the weather forecast and radar image was rain and more rain, he was reluctant to blow off the ride.
So the Wheelsucker arrived at the ABRT Ride Staging Area (known to non cyclists as the Davidsonville Park & Ride), and to his surprise, found another ABRTer -- Mike Faber -- there. It was not raining hard at that moment, but upwind the clouds were ominous. Mike and the Wheelsucker had just about convinced themselves that heavy rain was imminent, and they should go home and ride the indoor trainer, when Steve Owens drove in. With a combination of optimism and fatalism the three convinced each other to ride, and rolled out soon afterwards.
With only three riders this became a no-drop, long steady pulls, ride that resembled a three-rider team time trial. While there was some light drizzle from time to time and the roads were wet, the really hard rain held off until after the ride. The three opted to skip the loop portion of the Tuesday/Thursday ride route.
The Wheelsucker took the last long hard pull, Steve Owens launched the sprint from just after the bottom of the last dip and Jim Faber chased him down and passed him to take the sprint.
Where we you?
